“We take pride in our affordable no camping bicycle tours.” The Lake Champlain Bikeway has all the ingredients of a premiere bicycle touring destination. Quiet roads, picturesque villages, breathtaking scenery, country stores, historic sites, scenic ferry ride, a network of interconnected, international bicycle routes around Lake Champlain (the sixth largest freshwater lake in the US formed by a glacier), the New York Adirondacks, the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Richelieu Valley of Quebec. Day 1 - Sunday, July 4, 2010
Arrival Day- Burlington, VT Our bike tour starts in Burlington, VT located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain between the Adirondacks and Green Mountains. The Smart Suites is where the tour starts and we leave our autos for the duration of the tour. If you arrive early, we have a 22 mile loop ride, concentrating on the southern part of the Lake Champlain Bikeway. Day 2 - Monday, July 5, 2010 Burlington, VT to St. Bernard de Lacolle, Quebec 40+ Miles We bike to the Burlington Waterfront for the one hour scenic ferry ride across Lake Champlain to Port Kent, NY. Once there, we travel along the shore of Lake Champlain through Plattsburgh, Chazy Landing, and arrive at Rouses Point, NY. Day two ends across the Canadian/US border a few miles north of the hamlet of Rouses Point on the shores of Lake Champlain. Tonight's accommodations are at the Auberge Premier Inn in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec. Day 3 - Tuesday, July 6, 2010 St. Bernard de Lacolle to St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec 30+ Miles Today we ride to St. Jean sur Richelieu. There we have the option of visiting Fort Chambly, tasting a local beer, or visiting the town of St. Jean sur Richelieu-Chambly. Tonight’s accommodations are at the Auberge Harris Hotel which faces the Richelieu River in Quebec. Day 4 - Wednesday, July 7, 2010 St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec to North Hero, VT 45+ miles After spending another night in Canada, we travel south on Route 225 to the USA/Canadian border, crossing back in to the USA on the Vermont side of the border. There we pick up the Lake Champlain Bikeway crossing over to the Island LaMotte, where we visit the historic St. Anne's Shrine and Quarry. Continuing onto North Hero, VT, we spend the night on the beautiful shores of Lake Champlain. Tonight’s accommodations and dinner will be at the Shore Acres Inn on the shore of the Lake Champlain Islands. Day 5 - Thursday, July 8, 2010 North Hero to Burlington, VT 40 Miles This morning we cycle south along the lake's shore drive and after visiting the island, we pedal along the Grand Isle shore to South Hero, where we visit the Snow Farm Vineyards. After visiting the Snow's vineyards we have the option of crossing the Lake Champlain Causeway on the Island Line Bike Rail Trail by using the bike ferry (weather & conditions permitting). Or we have the option of crossing the bridge that spans Lake Champlain back to the mainland, passing Sand Bar State Park, the Sand Bar waterfront area, Colchester Causeway Park, Delta Park, over Winooski bridge, and biking past the Burlington Waterfront to continue to the hotel where we left our autos. There, our tour ends and we hope all your memories are pleasant. |
